Forgetting About Disted Guitars

Posted on 10.08.10 in Music by leinehed

Every now and then I run into a band that takes me back to my high school years, when I was just discovering punk, hardcore, emo, post-rock, etc… back in the days when the music available online was very limited, and where you still listened to bands depending on what record label they were on. Bands like Refused, Randy, Texas Is the Reason and Propagandhi almost singlehandedly established the foundation for that section of my music taste.

The strange thing about the noisier part of my taste in music, is that I don’t really search actively for new music within these genres. Not in the same way I look for indie and electronic music. No, the heavier stuff mostly happens by chance, and every time I get the same sensation of “Holy shit, why don’t I listen to this stuff more often?”

The same thing happened today, when I put on Japandroids excellent debut album from 2009, Post-Nothing. It’s not the first time I listen to the album, but yet it feels like there’s something entirely different to it today. And it’s probably my suppressed need for distorted guitars that haven’t been satisfied in a long time, that’s finally getting some fuel. This music is probably not for everyone, but to me it’s the kind that makes me want to run full speed for hours.

Satte ihop en liten lista med mina nuvarande favoriter som påminner om Japandroids som tack för att de fick förgylla min fredag. Skräpigt, vackert.
