Passing / Biding My Time

Ever since I’ve come home to Sweden, I’ve been working on tying up lose ends. I finally got my degree from Hyper Island, a few months late since my internship period in the States was prolonged. I’ve also been working day and night to complete my new portfolio, and updating it with new work. It’s almost ready, just some boring stuff left to do that I’m trying to muster the strength to complete. While doing this, I’m also trying to find a suitable place to work here in Stockholm, and also grabbing whatever freelance I can get in the meantime. Any suggestions on where I should apply for work?

Monday was a holiday here in the US, Presidents Day, so we had a 3-day weekend. Our classmates who are doing their internships in San Francisco took this opportunity to come visit us down here in LA. Fortunately, the weather is really starting to warm up, and we had nothing but sun for the entire duration of their stay. In fact, I haven’t seen a cloud in a week…

Attention span

Stayed at home for the first half of this day to compile my thoughts around the current project into a neat little pdf. Hyper Island sure is nice, but I have yet to find a way to be able to write stuff down there without having my thoughts diverted. At school I tend to have the attention span of a 5-year old…

The weeks fly by a little bit too fast. The Final Project Module is entering week 4, and we have yet to start the real production work. All this concepting and researching makes me itch, I can’t wait until we get to start the “real” work.

An a sidenote, last thursday, our class Digital Media 10 went on a cruise to Finland along with the new students in Digital Media 11 and Interactive Art Director 10. 24 hours of madness, an awesome kick off, but I doubt I will set my foot on another one of those ships anytime soon…

Back in business / Big things are (slowly) in the making

The holidays are over and everything is back to normal at Hyper Island. We’ve just started our final module before going on internship in November; 14 weeks of Final Project. At first it seemed pretty overwhelming but ever since I got our brief and my new coworkers, I feel much better. This is going to be cake, no doubt. Best module yet? Might be!

I guess it’s been a while since I’ve last posted here. Time has an odd way of passing really fast here in Stockholm, and at Hyper Island. We’ve done a ton of stuff since my last post, we launched our class promotion site and have gotten a lot of great publicity, me and 3 other Digital Media students went to OFFF in Portugal, I’ve moved in together with my girlfriend, and lots and lots more. I really don’t have time to recap it all now since I really should be working on one of our 4 current projects in The Industry Project module, which is our last module for the semester, before the summer break. we have a nice set of clients and I quite enjoy working in our fictive bureau Krona Klave. I have the role of art director and it suits me like a glove.

In other news, here is a good example on the Digital Media students’ playful attitude toward adversities:

Escapism…

Taking a minute away from my self-induced stress race versus the clock. Tomorrow is the big day, the event we’ve been waiting for and working towards around the clock these last few weeks. The culmination of our Marketing & Promotion Module. Our class site, with a huge release party to go along with it.

Tomorrow evening, we’ve invited a selected few (well, not so few) within the business to join us at Astoria to celebrate the release of our class site. And it will definately be off the hook! Can’t hardly wait!

On the downside, my time optimism has once again bit me in the ass and left me with a portfolio that still isn’t quite done for the release of the site. I, along with a few other braves, have run a few all-nighters these last few days, working like our lives depended on it. Design, align, code, get bored with the looks of it all, start to hate the looks, throw it away… Start over again, and repeat. It’s all pretty much a haze of too much coffee, floorslide competitions, strip ping pong and other various late night mischief… but it’s been awesome.

Anyways. Now to put those final touches on the portfolio. I’ll probably revise it pretty soon, but first, I’ll just ride the feeling of knowing I met the deadline for a while. May 1st reboot next?

Game Day

2 hours away from meeting our client for our product presentation. Even though I’m confident we’ve done a great job, I can’t help feeling them butterflies tickling my insides. This sensation is sort of the same as in the locker room minutes before entering the field of a sports game, or appearing on stage before an audience. Kind of an adrenaline rush.
And I kind of, kind of like it.

I have yet to discover the supposed greatness of Twitter. Maybe, if I could just find a nice, lightweight client to integrate with my sidebar or something like that, maybe then I would at least give it another chance. Just to be certain I can’t stand it. But one thing is for sure, I definately can’t be bothered to log in to the webpage every other minute just to see what Jogge had for lunch…

And while on the subject, what’s the deal with microblogging on your regular blog? It’s messing up my RSS feed!
